There’s that aphorism that suggests that the moment one stops changing, one starts to diminish. Skills decay sets in, and worse yet, boredom. In that vein, I started thinking of “aspirational” instructional design—the kind of work that one hopes will come about from federal grant funding in the pipeline.
Any sort of complex curricular build is desirable. Complex curricular builds with a challenging learning base means more collaborative techniques and creative deployment of technologies. Working on cross-functional teams also offer challenges.
Any sort of basic simulation is intriguing, even within the constraints of the available technologies. The uses of AI robots add interest and value.
The uses of sensors for information collection, datamining large databases, the uses of mobile GPS-enhanced devices, and creating fast automated trainings are all challenging and will surface new skills and insights.
There’s new learning on every project. Any project that involves subject matter experts from other fields will result in new learning and challenges. The “aspirational” piece though is about reaching for tougher projects without proof-of-concept yet. It’s about using skills that ought to be stretched and challenged.
